The Miami Marlins’ Hideous New Logo
There are big things happening in Miami. The Florida Marlins are now the Miami Marlins. They will have a new stadium, have hired a new manager (Ozzie Guillen, who recently made an appearance on the cover of ESPN the Magazine…) and are making offers all over the map on free agents. They recently courted Albert Pujols and have signed former Padres closer Heath Bell. When they weren’t busy making out with dogs (see above link to Ozzie’s magazine cover) or putting on tanning lotion, the Marlins managed to roll out this beautiful new logo:
I’m not quite sure what can be said about this hideous abomination. Perhaps there was a beached Marlin that barfed up something that looked similar to this logo at the exact same moment that Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria was strolling on the beach. Ironically enough, Loria is apparently an art dealer….
Another bit of irony here is that the Marlins are actually taking steps to be a very serious contender in 2012. The Braves don’t have the ability to automatically win anymore and the 2011 playoffs surely exposed the chinks in the Phillies’ armor. The Marlins are pursuing, at least in some capacity, many of the big name free agents this year. If Hanley Ramirez returns to at least half the player he was in 2010, Josh Johnson can stay healthy and the team can land a big name free agent, the Marlins will probably be the favorite in their division.
I’m not sure if St. Charles native Mark Buehrle will want to move down to Miami if he has to put this on every game. I mean honestly, it looks lie the 1970′s and a fast food sign had a child and that child chose to be a professional clown for a living. I can imagine that the view of Ozzie Guillen walking out of the dugout in one of these uniforms will haunt the dreams of Cubs fans (and White Sox fans alike). But, then again, if any of my dear readers wants to look like a complete clown bag, here’s the link where you can buy one of these glorious uniforms:

You know, if you are going to blog about something, I wish you would stop sugar coating what you have to say and just be honest with what you really think!
For the last couple of years I have been trying to tell people around here that I thought Ozzie was a bit of a goon.
I now rest my case!
Better to have an inexperienced, but reasonable, logical manager than a lunatic!
I love the new logo! It is eye catching!
